How to Act

This is something I'll probably be babbling on quite a bit about as it's the most wonderful and terrifying question looming in my consciousness on a daily basis. How to act. Not just how to read lines or how to position body parts with a mind of their own on a stage but the GOOD STUFF. You know, that Meryl Streep, Dustin Hoffman kind of acting that makes you forget you're watching a movie and makes you get absorbed into the lives of the characters. That stuff that makes you laugh and cry and go to the theaters again and again despite the $15 sodas and $30 bags of popcorn. I want to do that. And as many years as I've been studying how to do that, I feel as though I am JUST BARELY scratching the surface. Barely. Dozens, hundreds, of techniques and exercises are out there just waiting for eager bodies with big voices to jump in. Where to start? Anywhere I guess. Just START. The one thing I've found so far is that they all boil down to seeking the ultimate openness and vulnerability within. It's about getting to the real truth of emotional honesty. It's about being fully present. Forget how you look or where your hands are...are YOU THERE?
